What is Family Therapy?

Family Therapy may also be referred to as Family and Systemic Psychotherapy. This type of psychotherapy focuses on the context of your family and close relationships. This means that Family and Systemic Psychotherapists are interested in relationships between people, rather than focusing only on what may be happening within individuals.

We explore the pattern of beliefs which may influence our interactions. We are aware that patterns and habits may become set over time. At times of transition, old patterns of thinking and behaving may no longer be helpful. By changing our habits we can improve and alter our relationships with others. We are interested in supporting change, not only for you, but for all those who are important to you.

We are respectful of differing individual perspectives, beliefs and views, and together we will explore possible ways forward with you.

What do we offer?

By choosing Family Therapy or Family and Systemic Psychotherapy you will find that each session will:

  • Draw upon the strengths and commitment that already exist within your relationships
  • Consider all those involved with you — your family, friends and maybe your colleagues
  • Work with you so that you understand and are able to deal more effectively with problems you may be experiencing
  • Improve communication, helping you and your family to understand each other and overcome the difficulties you are facing
  • Consider the impact of difficulties on your relationships, past and present, and work with you to find new ways forward
