Gillian Norman MSc. Family Therapy
UKCP Registration 313360

As a Systemic Psychotherapist I work with individuals, couples and whole families where appropriate. My experience of over 20 years lies mainly within the NHS working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

I believe that a supportive and containing therapeutic relationship can help with emotional difficulties ranging from depression, separation and divorce, teenage development, parenting challenges, bereavement, and the particular parenting challenges for step families coming together..

Relationships in families develop and change through the generations. Sometimes a Therapist can help when we feel stuck and cannot see a way ahead. I will explore with you how best you can move forward in your relationships in a safe way. We will look together at all the options and possible ways to carry them out.

I work with the natural resilience and creativity within individuals and families which can be sometimes overlooked when things get tough but can be drawn on through therapy.

I have also consulted to Fostering and Adoption Agencies and Social Services and have expertise and interest in the consultation process to voluntary agencies.

Margaret Sykes MSc. Family Therapy
UKCP Registration 5300

I am a registered Family and Systemic Psychotherapist. I trained at the Oxford Family Institute.

I have practiced for over 25 years largely within the NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, I also have experience working for the local authority, and have frequently been invited to provide consultancy to other professionals in a range of different organisations, and I have nearly 10 years experience working independently as a Guardian-ad-litem. I have experience both as a trainer and as a clinical supervisor.

I believe that therapy is essentially about working with you to help you find a way through difficulties. I sometimes work with a colleague, and this may prove helpful if there are a number of people who choose to attend. I use a systemic model of therapy which helps to harness strengths when facing difficulties, which has the potential to offer a different vision of how life can be.

I am interested in how people manage to negotiate transitions and changes in life, and I have been involved in some research in this area. I also like to think about how past experiences may impact on the present, and how these experiences may be understood and managed in order to move forward.

Eleanor Hughes MSc. Family Therapy
UKCP Registration 15799

I am a Registered Family and Systemic Psychotherapist who trained at Oxford Family Institute.

I have twenty years experience of therapeutic work within Health, Education and Social Services helping families manage emotional difficulties related to divorce, remarriage, neurological problems and ill health. I also have fifteen years experience of providing consultation to teachers, health workers and social workers on the emotional needs of vulnerable children.

I believe that people can gain strength through change with and alongside others and that the therapist’s role is to support and assist that change. I am trained to work with individuals, couples and families across the life span and aim to provide a calm space where differing thoughts can be safely explored.

Occasionally, during the course of therapy, I may, with your consent, invite a co-therapist to join us. This can provide additional perspectives when a large number of people attend and/or the issues you present are particularly complex.

In general my work is short-term with sufficient gaps between sessions for you to consolidate your ideas and make adjustments.

A special area of expertise is helping couples or families manage the emotional impact of chronic mental illness. I also have an interest in working with the particular challenges of mid-life.

I am respectful of different beliefs and lifestyles and seek to promote flexibility and humour as part of the therapeutic process.

I am a UKCP registered integrative psychotherapist (BCPC) with over 15 years experience in private practice. In my NHS work as a Family Therapist I have had considerable experience in helping parents, couples, adolescents and children through difficult periods of their lives.

I am particularly interested now in drawing upon the new therapeutic approaches such as EFT (www.emofree.com), TFT,(www.tftrx.com) and TAT(www.tatlife.com) emerging from the rapidly developing field of energy psychology. The basic principle of energy psychology is that emotional experience appears to be patterned into the body’s energy system.

I have been integrating these approaches into my psychotherapy practice and am impressed by their effectiveness in bringing about rapid relief in trauma of all kinds, including tragic bereavement, single episode traumas such as assaults or accidents, and the trauma of abusive relationships.

As a teacher of Heart Rhythm Meditation, (www.appliedmeditation.org) I am also interested in working with those who are seeking to discover a spiritual dimension in their lives.
